A plant heating system had to be realised for a renowned pharmaceutical manufacturer. Pipes, mixers and motors had to be preheated and kept warm. This ensures a problem-free material flow without any loss of time due to long warm-up phases. Our heaters have been running there for many years without incident in "24/7" operation.
For one of the leading sporting goods manufacturers, we have designed a heating sleeve for heating the outer shell of ski boots. The aim of the heating is to make the plastic soft and malleable so that it can be adapted to the individual shape of the customer's foot in the further process. The big challenge here was to heat very quickly (only about 7 minutes), but not to overheat at any point. Other heating techniques proved to be unsuitable in corresponding tests, the heating was too uneven and too slow here. Only through our superior heating technology were we able to meet the high requirements and very fast reach the required temperature without damaging the smooth surface finish through uneven heat distribution. We have manufactured several thousand units here, which have been in operation for many years. To date 0% failure rate!

In the World Rally Car Championship in Sweden, for example, the cars are driven under extremely wintry conditions. The sometimes enormous cold would require a long warm-up phase of the suspension elements, which you simply don't have before the start. That is why we have designed a shock absorber heating system that ensures constant suspension characteristics right from the start of the special stage.
The specifications for this project were to heat quickly and evenly while making maximum use of the available space. Some openings for handholds and pipe outlets etc. also had to be taken into account.
However, a main focus here was reliability and durability. The heating sleeves have to be removed and refitted at regular intervals. They must be able to withstand any mechanical stresses that may occur. Replacement in this case would be far more cost-intensive than the heater itself, as the heaters become radioactively contaminated during operation and would thus have to be disposed of as extremely expensive hazardous waste.
We have produced about 200 pieces here, failure rate to date 0%!
Several years ago, we received a very special enquiry as to whether we could supply "heating elements" that are, on the one hand, flat, but also very thin and permeable to laminating resin. Furthermore, it should be possible to drill holes at any point without damaging the heater or even putting it out of operation completely. Of course, the corresponding resistances and dimensions also had to be complied with. We were able to fulfil all these tricky requirements, so that in the meantime about 150 passenger coaches are travelling through the countries with our electric underfloor heating.
What to do when a large-area device needs to be tempered, but preheating in a stationary oven is out of the question because it cools down too quickly outside? Very simple, call KLS and order a suitable heating mat! No sooner said than done, the component stays warm and can be joined. Problem solved, customer happy (us too).
Runflat or so-called UHP (ultra high performance) tyres usually have very stiff tyre sidewalls. At correspondingly low temperatures, dangerous damage to the tyre bead can already occur during mounting. These can lead to air loss during driving and consequently to tyre bursts at high speeds. To prevent this, a large automotive supplier commissioned us with the construction of a tyre bead heater. After successful tests, we produced and delivered many hundreds of them. Our products then proved themselves in daily use.
Floating - in a warm high-percentage salt water solution, you float virtually weightless on top and can completely relax your body. Sounds like an extremely pleasant wellness cure, as long as the water does not cool down during these 30-60 minutes. We have constructed a system based on our proven carbon fibre heating system, which is laminated directly into the bottom of these approx. 2×2.5m GRP tubs. During the floating process, the heating is then applied very quickly and evenly over the entire surface to prevent the salt solution from cooling down. Since 2011, we have been working very successfully with the leading manufacturer of such floating systems.
High-tech HD cameras require a certain operating temperature in order to produce optimal recordings. Depending on the location, this can mean that the camera cools down too much overnight, for example, and then has to be brought up to operating temperature by idling or the like, which is time-consuming. The heater we designed for this purpose was probably the largest we have ever built, measuring approx. 2.40 x 1.75m.
